On May 18, in the framework of Ukrainian Cultural Festival, there was held the Ukrainian Day in Byblos, a cultural, touristic and historical jewel of Lebanon and one of the oldest places in the world. Ukrainian Day started with exhibitions and fairs of art works by Ukrainian craftswomen and presentation of Ukrainian cuisine. Then the solemn opening of Ukrainian square in Byblos took place with the monument "Maternity" by Mykhailo Horlovyi, Ukrainian sculptor, and the memorial plague to the famous Ukrainian traveler and writer Vasyl Hrygorovych-Barsky by Pierre Karam, Lebanese sculptor. The event continued with Ukrainian embroidery parade in the ancient part of the city and ended with a fantastic concert of Ukrainian bandura band “Shpyliasti Kobzari” and performances of Ukrainian community’s music groups in Roman’s amphitheater near the ancient fortress. The Ukrainian Day at Byblos brought together many Ukrainians from different parts of Lebanon and became a real symbol of Ukrainian-Lebanese friendship. The event was supported by Z.Hawat, the Member of Lebanese Parliament, W.Zaarour, the President of Jbeil-Byblos Municipality, J.Zgheib, the deputy head of Municipality, local council deputies, S.Tawile, the head of Lebanese-Ukrainian business council, sculptors M.Horlovyi and P. Karam, and by NGO "Ukrainian community in Lebanon". Numerous representatives from the Lebanese community, residents and guests of the city, journalists from the local media visited Ukrainian Day in Byblos. The event took place under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture of Lebanon, with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in Lebanon and Jbeil- Byblos Municipality.
