Under the initiative of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Lebanon the Metropolitan of Beirut Elias Audi served a prayer on commemoration of heroes and victims of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant on 26 April 1986. The prayer took place on 25 April in the St. George Cathedral in Beirut.

During the prayer the deceases heroes of Chernobyl were commemorated: Leonid Telyatnikov, Volodymyr Pravik, Victor Kibenok and others, who died saving Ukraine and the whole world from the atomic trouble. Also numerous victims of Chernobyl were commemorated.

The Ambassador of Ukraine Volodymyr Koval made a short speech telling about the Chernobyl tragedy and condition of overcoming its consequences.

The prayer was attended by the staff of the Embassy with their families, representatives of Embassies of the Russian Federation, Armenia, Kazakhstan, numerous parishioners of the cathedral.
