On September 30, 2018, the Ambassador of Ukraine Ihor Ostash visited the festive liturgy at the Patriarchal Monastery of Our Lady of Balamand and met with His Beatitude John X Patriarch of Antioch and all the East. During the meeting the cooperation between the Orthodox churches and the history of relations between the Ukrainian Orthodox world and the Antiochian Church was discussed on an example of visits to Lebanon and Syria in the 18th century of Vasyl Hrygorovych-Barsky, the Ukrainian Orthodox writer and traveler. The Ambassador emphasized that Ukraine is the largest Orthodox country in Europe, and appealed to His Beatitude to support the Tomos on granting autocephaly to Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Ambassador stressed that granting the Tomos corresponds to the aspirations of the Ukrainian people. At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador and his wife and representatives of the Ukrainian community took a common picture for good memories and presented memorable gifts.
